The cells that help blood clot.

A typical platelet count is 150–450 ×10⁹/L. Below is thrombocytopenia, above is thrombocytosis.

| <20 | Risk of spontaneous bleeding; urgent assessment |
| <50 | Bruising and bleeding tendency; tell your clinician before procedures |
| 150–450 | Typical range |
| >450 | Thrombocytosis: mostly reactive (inflammation, iron deficiency) |
