MCV
Red cell size hints at the anemia type.

In adults MCV is typically 80–100 fL. <80 suggests small cells (iron deficiency, thalassemia); >100 suggests large cells (B12/folate deficiency, alcohol, thyroid).
| Index | Typical range | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| MCV | 80–100 fL | Cell size |
| MCHC | 32–36 g/dL | Hemoglobin concentration inside the cell |
| RDW | 11.5–14.5% | Variation in cell size |
