LDH
A general marker of cell damage.

LDH is found in almost every tissue and enters blood when cells are damaged. The typical range is about 140–280 U/L (it varies by method). It is not specific on its own.
| Cause | Example |
|---|---|
| Hemolysis (in the sample) | Red cells broken in the tube: falsely high |
| Muscle, heart, liver damage | Hard exercise, infection, hepatitis |
| Blood disorders | Hemolytic anemia, some blood cancers |
