Each row shows the value, unit and reference range; out-of-range values are flagged. A flag means "look closer", not "you are sick".

  1. Sign in to your patient portal (such as MyChart) and open Test Results.
  2. Find the value, unit and reference range on each row.
  3. Note any H (high) or L (low) flags.
  4. Compare with earlier results of the same test; the trend matters more than one value.
  5. Bring your notes to your clinician, or message them through the portal.
Labels differ between systems.
FlagMeaning
H / High / ↑Above the reference range
L / Low / ↓Below the reference range
Critical / !Past the lab's urgent threshold; contact your clinician right away
