On every line, check four things: the result, the unit, the reference range and the flag. One out-of-range value alone is not a disease.

  1. Check the unit: mg/dL and mmol/L are different.
  2. Compare the result with the range on your own report.
  3. See whether you are near a limit or far from it.
  4. Compare with earlier results: direction says more than one value.
